Sure, Analog:Shift is a business built around the love of watches — mostly mechanical watches. But, in essence, it’s our love for timepieces and timekeeping in general that are the common themes throughout the items we procure. And that includes the love of clocks in general: pocket watches, travel clocks, and more.

After all, in the couple hundred years before the First World War, personal timekeeping was all about the pocket watch, and before that, it was larger clocks that were front and center, horologically. We still believe a good clock — such as a classic travel model from the 1920s or 1930s — has a place in the watch lover’s collection.

This particular timepiece is a highly unique ‘birthday’ clock from La Grand Maison itself, Jaeger-LeCoultre. Housed in a 92mm chrome and black lacquer case with a 79.4mm x 127mm baseplate, it features a chrome winding key, a chrome crown, a satin silver dial with ‘Arabic’ indices, a matching, partially skeletonized handset, and a beautiful, multi-tone grey and white dial with an inner 12-hour scale, an outer ‘railroad’ minute track, and a fully graduated minute/second track with Arabic numerals on the dial periphery. 

Beneath the dial is a small hole that research shows is for a birthstone or zodiac symbol — hence the ‘birthday clock! — while powering the clock is a Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 888 hand-wound movement. Dating to 1936 but looking incredibly fresh and modern, this beautiful timepiece is the perfect accent piece for the home of a dedicated lover of horology.
